A Look at the Brand-New 2024 Mercedes-Benz CLE

The brand-new 2024 Mercedes-Benz CLE Coupe introduced earlier this month is a brand-new two-door coupe that will be arriving on the market at the beginning of 2024. The new CLE series will feature both a coupe and convertible model, and bridges the gap between past generations of the C-Class and E-Class coupes. Designed with luxury, versatility, refinement, and styling in mind, the new CLE lineup embodies the purest tradition of Mercedes-Benz grand touring luxury.

Style in movement

The CLE Coupe radiates a distinctive exterior design. Its elongated wheelbase, lean A-pillar, and extended rear overhang coalesce with pronounced shoulders and broad wheel arches to present an impressive silhouette. The Sensual Purity design philosophy of Mercedes-Benz is wholly embodied in the CLE Coupe, resulting in a dynamic and emotive display of automotive design.

The front of the CLE Coupe showcases an athletic inclination, complete with a streamlined hood, innovative flat LED headlights, and a fresh take on the three-dimensional radiator grille. Powerful engines rest beneath the contoured power domes on its hood, ready to accommodate up to six cylinders. The rear of the CLE Coupe mirrors the modern aesthetic of the front with its flowing lines, seamless transitions, and sophisticated two-part LED taillights, which feature cutting-edge contours and three-dimensional lighting effects.

Inside, the CLE Coupe offers unparalleled space for a two-door model in the midsize segment. Measuring 4,850 mm in length, 1,860 mm in width, and 1,428 mm in height, it presents a cabin that surpasses even the C-Class Coupe. Rear passengers can luxuriate in additional room – an extra 10 mm for headroom, 19 mm for shoulder and elbow space, and an impressive 71 mm for knee room. The generous trunk can comfortably accommodate three golf bags, providing around 60 liters more volume than comparable models.

Behind the wheel, drivers are met with a 12.3-inch fully digital display and an 11.9-inch central display, both in an intuitive portrait format, facilitating an interactive entertainment experience with third-party apps. Enhancing the mood inside the cabin is ambient lighting that extends from the center console to beneath the air vents. The seats are a crowning achievement of luxury, adorned with an integral sport design unique to the CLE. For the Canadian market, there is an optional Burmester® 3D surround sound system with Dolby Atmos® technology, including two speakers integrated into the front-seat headrests, promising an immersive audio experience.

Mercedes-Benz presents an innovative addition in the form of the “EASY-ENTRY function” for the first time in the CLE Coupe. This new feature allows the front seats to be unlocked via an elegantly crafted loop made of Nappa leather located at the top of the front seat backrests. Powered by the third-generation MBUX infotainment system and a state-of-the-art electronic architecture, the CLE Coupe offers a custom, intelligent user experience for the driver and passengers.

New Electrified Powertrain

Beneath its sleek exterior, the CLE Coupe houses an electrified powertrain, featuring mild hybrid technology with an integrated starter generator and a 48-volt electrical system. Canadian customers will be able to enjoy the driving prowess of a 2.0-liter four-cylinder powertrain equipped on the Mercedes-Benz CLE 300 4MATIC that delivers an impressive 255 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque.

Part of the current FAME (Family of Modular Engines) from Mercedes-Benz,  this engine features turbocharging and a second-generation integrated starter generator (ISG). The ISG supports lower engine speeds and ensures superior power development. Utilizing the 48-volt on-board electrical system, the ISG carries out functions such as coasting, boosting, or recuperation, leading to substantial fuel savings. Engine start-up is quick and convenient, making the start-stop function nearly unnoticeable, similar to the transition from coasting with the engine off to robust propulsion. The ISG's intelligent interaction with the combustion engine provides exceptional smoothness when idling. A new battery has led to an increase in the electric motor's power from 21 to 23 hp, compared to other series, and the boost torque is 148 lb-ft.

In terms of safety, the CLE Coupe leaves no stone unturned, with a suite of advanced driver-assistance systems, including ATTENTION ASSIST, Active Brake Assist, and a Parking Package with a reversing camera as standard.
